Settling into a routine.

I have almost nothing of interest to report today. Why then, you wonder, is she writing a blog post entry? I will tell you.

I have two things of marginal interest to report today -- a day in which I literally sat at my desk from 10am to 5pm and did not move. First of all: I took a taxi in both directions (to/from work) today, and I successfully navigated both times. I had to confirm that we were actually in Wandegeya in the morning, but I was 100% on my own coming back from work. I did it all by myself!

Secondly, a burn update. Against the recommendations and advice of Brian, who has been burned by a boda exhaust pipe before, I bandaged my leg up last night pretty well. He told me to leave it open to "let the heat out," and I (rather pompously, I must admit) thought he was using some sort of indigenous concept of medicine and cold/hot balance -- so I ignored him. Well, when I unbandaged it about half an hour ago, the joke was on me: it doesn't look good. I took a picture and tried to upload it to show you all, but luckily for you, the internet is so slow right now that the image won't upload. You will have to use your imaginations.

  1. Katie, as someone with lots of experience burning myself, you want to let it breathe so it will dry out when you are in a place where it will be protected. Lightly cover it when it's likely to bang into something.Do you have any antibiotic cream handy?

  2. Nope, didn't mean to be anonymous ... just couldn't figure out how to post any other way. It's Jacki offering her medical advice!

  3. I did bring a tube of Neosporin with me -- thankfully, as finding basic commodities here is harder than I thought it would be. I put some on last night, and again just now. Definitely leaving it uncovered for a while to let it do its thing.

  4. Yikes...sorry about the burn...those boda bodas sound like nightmares...I agree - keep cream on it and keep it unbandaged if you can. Also make sure to keep it clean. Am also all too familiar with burns myself - as Larry can attest! Great posts again. Feel like I'm right there with you...btw...how is the coffee there?

  5. Get some vitamin E to rub on it! I burnt myself pretty badly on Jesse's motorcycle a couple summers ago (probably in the same spot, 'cause I hit my ankle on the exhaust pipe, not realizing that it was scalding hot as I'd never been on a motorcycle before), and my mom made me rub vitamin E on it every day. Thanks to that, what could have been a nasty scar is pretty much invisible now! Also helped the burn heal much faster.
